This is a beta course, so its structure, chapters, and examples may continue to change.
How to File Your Taxes
The core of filing is: the right period, matching data, and archived documents. Mistakes and omissions have to be corrected promptly.
- Annual reconciliation of comprehensive individual income tax: annual (usually March to June of the following year).
- Sole proprietorships / business income: monthly or quarterly prepayment plus an annual reconciliation.
- VAT: monthly or quarterly filing; the surcharges are levied together with the VAT.
- Corporate income tax: quarterly prepayment plus an annual reconciliation and settlement.
- Channels: the electronic tax bureau, the individual income tax app, and online filing software.
- Income details: payroll sheets and ledgers of sales or service income.
- Invoices and vouchers: output and input invoices, contracts, and payment receipts.
- Deduction and incentive documents: special additional deduction information, super-deduction records for R&D expenses, qualification filings, and so on.
- Tax already prepaid: withholding records and prepayment vouchers.
- If you find a mistake or an omission, apply for a correction, a voiding, or a refiling in the electronic tax bureau as soon as possible.
- Additional tax should be paid within the period stated in the notice, to avoid late fees.
- If a refund is involved, submit the account information and documents as required, and keep track of the refund progress.
- After each filing, download and save the receipt or the filing form as a PDF, so that it is easy to check later.
- Sync important changes (identity, address, business scope) in the tax system promptly.
- Keep invoices, ledgers, and filing documents for the statutory period (usually 5-10 years, depending on the tax type and local rules).
